Members present: Chairperson Welper, Jacobs, Morrissey, Powers, Lind, Amos, and Schmitt.
Moved by Schmitt seconded by Amos that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven.
Motion carried.
Moved by Morrissey seconded by Powers that request from Leisure Services Director for
authorization to begin the Civil Service process for the position of Park Maintenance II Crew
Leader and to make an appointment from the Civil Service list, be approved. Ayes: Seven.
Motion carried.
Mr. Lind questioned if the position can be shared with any other department.
Paul Huting, Leisure Services Director, explained that this position will be mowing the levy
system nine months out of the year and trail sweeping and snow removal the rest of the year and
it is full time position.
Mr. Schmitt questioned the hourly rate.
Paul Huting explained that the pay rate for the position $25.13 per hour. He further explained
that by changing the title and reducing the pay rate for this position there is an actual savings of
approximately $3,100 - $3,200.
Mr. Schmitt questioned the expertise required for the position.
Paul Huting explained the duties of the position and the certifications needed.
Mr. Lind thanked Paul Huting for including actual dollar amounts on the personnel requisition
form.
Mr. Jacobs questioned if some of the levy mowing was contracted out.
Paul Huting explained that they contracted right-of-way mowing, however they prefer to keep
the levy mowing in house due to the need to work closely with engineering.
Mr. Jacobs questioned if a cost comparison has ever been done.
Paul Huting confirmed some cost comparison has been done which has shown similar costs. He
further explained that those numbers vary depending on how many bidders there are.
Mr. Welper explained that it takes one full month to mow.
With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Schmitt seconded by Morrissey
that the meeting be adjourned at 5:06 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
