Members present: Chairperson Welper, Jacobs, Morrissey, Powers, Lind, Amos, and Schmitt.
Moved by Schmitt seconded by Amos that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Voice vote -
Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
Moved by Morrissey seconded by Powers that the request from the Director of Waste
Management Services Department to begin the recruitment process for Plant Maintenance
Mechanic and to make an appointment from Civil Service list, be approved. Roll call vote -Ayes:
Seven. Motion carried.
Mr. Schmitt requested an overview of the item.
Steve Hoambrecker, Waste Management Director, explained that an individual was promoted
out of the position and needs to be filled to have six positions.
Mr. Schmitt questioned the job duties for the position.
Steve Hoambrecker explained the duties required for the Plant Maintenance Mechanic.
Mr. Schmitt questioned if the requirement for positions has reduced over the years.
Steve Hoambrecker explained that since 2008, more permanent lift stations have been added
which requires additional maintenance.
Moved by Amos seconded by Morrissey that the request from the Director of Waste
Management Services Department to begin the recruitment process for ICT Foreman and to
make an appointment from Civil Service list, be approved. Roll call vote -Ayes: Four. Nays:
Three (Jacobs, Lind, and Schmitt). Motion carried.
Mr. Lind questioned if the two positions could be combined into one position.
Steve Hoambrecker explained that they did look at combining the positions but because of the
differences between the two they have decided to keep them separate at this time.
Mr. Lind asked if it could be looked at again in the future.
Steve Hoambrecker confirmed that it could be reviewed at a later date.
Mr. Jacobs commented that if the two positions were combined, the city could save over
$61,000.
Steve Hoambrecker confirmed.
With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Amos seconded by Morrissey
that the meeting be adjourned at 5:07 p.m. Voice vote -Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
