RESOLUTION NO. 2011-919
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR
MAINTENANCE OF LOU HENRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PUBLIC PEDESTRIAN
IMPROVEMNTS FOR A PERIOD OF TEN (10) YEARS.
WHEREAS, pedestrian improvements around Lou Henry
Elementary School are recognized as an important need for the
City and the preliminary findings from the Black Hawk County
Metropolitan Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Study have
identified these improvements as a priority; and
WHEREAS, the Iowa Department of Transportation provides
Safe Routes to School funds on a competitive basis to projects
that improve pedestrian and bicycle safety around elementary and
middle schools; and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo will be responsible for
adequately maintaining the project for public use for at least
the next ten years through standing ordinances regarding
sidewalk maintenance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the City Council authorizes the
application to be submitted to the Iowa Department of
Transportation for Safe Routes to School funding.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of September 2011 .
