Marketing and Public Relations Campaign for Cedar Valley SportsPlex
The Cedar Valley SportsPlex is slated to be open for business in the Fall of 2013. The
Black Hawk County Gaming Association has committed $5 million towards the
construction of the facility. A marketing plan is the next crucial step for the success of
the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. There are 3 primary goals for this plan: 1) Create a plan
that drives memberships to the facility from the Cedar Valley at large. 2) Create
mechanisms that drive the recruitment of memberships from corporate partners
throughout the Cedar Valley. 3) Devise a marketing plan that positions us for hosting
regional tournaments that best utilize the amenities to be found within the facility.

Narrative
A. Construction of the Cedar Valley SportsPlex is slated to begin in late April of
2013. This 130,000 square foot recreational facility will be the first of its kind for
an Iowa city. In order to ensure a successful opening and ongoing operation, it
will be crucial to have a professional marketing and public relations plan in place.
This plan will be focused on recruiting corporate members, individual and family
memberships and attracting sports event planners.
B. A marketing plan will be crucial for the success of the Cedar Valley SportsPlex.
There are 3 primary goals for this plan: 1) Create a plan that drives memberships
to the facility from the Cedar Valley at large. 2) Create mechanisms that drive the
recruitment of memberships from corporate partners throughout the Cedar Valley.
3) Devise a marketing plan that positions us for hosting regional tournaments that
best utilize the amenities to be found within the facility.
C. Hellman & Associates will be responsible for the design and implementation of a
the comprehensive marketing and public relations program. This will include
complete Strategic Development:
Branding Strategy and Development
Includes recommendations for optimizing the brand throughout
all elements and phases of facility development and opening.
Marketing and PR Awareness Strategy Development
Includes development of all communication tactics to generate
awareness and excitement for the opening of the facility.
Membership Strategy Development
Includes membership driven tactics and promotions designed to
secure members prior to and immediately after facility opening.
D. The marketing and public relation plan would begin shortly after construction
(6/2012) and continue through the early stages of opening the facility (1/2014).
E. Projections show over 700 visitors each day from throughout the Cedar Valley.
F. Success will be measured by evaluating membership numbers and by the number
of weekend tournament events booked. Our goal for memberships is to have 25-
30% of our goal of membership units sold prior to the opening of the facility. Our
goal for tournament events is to have at least 2 weekends/month booked in 2014.
G. Once the Cedar Valley SportsPlex is open for business and has an approved
budget, dollars for marketing will be designated within the operating budget.

facilities and services that encourage lifelong learning, fitness and fun. The Commission
