Brief (100 word) summary of the project:
Extending from Mullan Avenue to Park Avenue on the north side of the river, this is the final segment of the
River Renaissance trail in downtown Waterloo. The concrete trail will connect to segments previously
completed as well as to numerous overlooks being constructed along the river. The overlook at Mullan Avenue
is included as part of this segment's construction. Once constructed, this will complete the last segment of the
American Discovery Trail in the Cedar Valley and will result in a seamless trail experience between Cedar Falls
and Cedar Rapids, encompassing over 160 miles of connected trail.

SUBJECT: Resolution to approve and authorize Mayor Clark to sign a Great Places grant
request for the RIVER RENAISSANCE TRAIL in the amount of $140,000 with $79,837 cash
match required.

This trail project will extend the River Renaissance Trail from Mullan Ave. to Park Ave. on the
north side of the river.

Background Information: Great Places funding grant funding for this project will be combined
$79,837 in cash match and. $713,376 in other grant sources (Vision Iowa and MPO funds) for a
total estimated project cost of $933,213.
RESOLUTION NO. 2010-435
RESOLUTION APPROVING APPLICATION WITH THE
IOWA DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS AND
DIRECTING EXECUTION OF SAID APPLICATION BY
MAYOR.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA,
that the Iowa Great Places Grant application dated June 7, 2010,
in the amount of $140,000.00, with a local cash match in the
amount of $79,837.00, to be used for funding the River
Renaissance Trail, by and between the Iowa Department of Cultural
Affairs and the City of Waterloo, Iowa, be and the same is hereby
approved, and the Mayor authorized to execute the same in behalf
of the City of Waterloo, Iowa.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 7th day of June, 2010.
