Members present: Mayor Pro Tem Hart, Jones, Schmitt, Lind, Morrissey, and Welper. Absent:
Cole.
Moved by Welper, seconded by Schmitt that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six.
Motion carried.
Dan Trelka, Director of Safety Services, reviewed an amendment to Title 6 Motor Vehicles and
Traffic by enacting an Ordinance, Title 6, Chapter 6 — Impoundment of Motor Vehicles by
Departments and using other personnel other than Police was discussed.
Mr. Jones questioned the price for towing.
Dan Trelka, Director of Safety Services, explained that the towing fee is an agreed upon amount
with the towing company.
Mr. Schmitt questioned if the set amount of time to remove the vehicle is a designated time and
what tow companies will be used.
Dan Trelka, Director of Safety Services, explained that the tags are for abandoned vehicles and
they will only have two hours if it is a posted snow emergency. The towing service will be
selected by a bidding process.
Mr. Lind questioned if there will be a secure area for the vehicles.
Mr. Hart questioned the time frame to hold abandoned vehicles before they are turned over to the
City.
Mr. Jones questioned if the companies will have to have appropriate liability insurance.
Dan Trelka, Director of Safety Services, explained the abandoned vehicle provisions and
explained that the tow company will have liability insurance and the departments will keep a
record of vehicles requested to be towed.
Mr. Morrissey had it clarified that this will apply to priority one streets.
Mr. Welper questioned the amount of the vehicle impound fee.
Mr. Jones questioned the process for knowing what vehicles have been towed.
Dan Trelka, Director of Safety Services, explained that the impound fee will be determined by
the tow company and dispatch should be able to inform citizens which company to call if their
vehicle is towed.
It was the consensus of the committee to place this ordinance change on next week's council
agenda.
With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Hart, seconded by Schmitt that
the meeting be adjourned at 5:04 p.m. Ayes: Six. Motion carried.
