Thanks for Listening! Library Mr. Mayor, Council and All, During the last Budget process, the Council approved a Budget that, although I voted against, I still accept, as it is Our City of Waterloo Budget which I am part of and am to work within. One of the results of this recently passed and "now in effect" budget is affecting a Quality of Life component of our Great City ® the LIBRARY. Due to the City's budget cuts affecting the Library's operations, patrons of the Library are about to see Library Hours of operation be reduced. Rather than being open from 9 AM to 9 PM on Wednesday and Thursday, those hours will change to 9 AM to 6 PM on both days. A reduction of 3 hours per day or a total of 6 hours. The Library Staff and the Library Board believe that there is "no choice" but to reduce hours given the Library's already "bare bones" staffing levels and the need to properly staff so as to remain open, safe and providing service. Whom and what does this affect? Short answer -- everyone, but especially students, daytime workers, nighttime programs and events and those that rely on the Library for their updates, current/community news, information gathering and contacts. It, also, has moved us closer (63 hours) to the minimum hours required for Accreditation (61 hours). Please, I ask all of you to, when we can, restore and then, enhance, this Quality of Life Treasure we, the people of Waterloo, have had, do have and need to maintain!
