Topics for this training: The City Budget: MLA Part Two builds upon the basic city finance information covered in Part One by helping city officials understand how a city budget is developed. You Got Elected, Now What?: This session covers strate- gies for success in office, dealing with personnel issues, meeting basics and a brief overview of roles and respon- sibilities. Basics of Planning and Zoning: Participants will receive an overview of Iowa planning and zoning laws, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the planning commission, the board of adjustment and the city council. MLA Part Three is designed for those looking for more in-depth information on the challenges facing cities.The train- ing costs just $75 and includes the latest information and policy guidance on the following topics: Economic Development: Learn about the city's role in economic development with an overview of the tools used by cities to retain and attract businesses and housing.This session is essential to gain understanding of the very im- portant role cities play in improving or maintaining their local economy.
