HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/11/1989CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MINUTES December 11, 1989 5:30 p.m. Large Conference Room Members present: Mayor McKinley, Angel, Budak, Dell, Fox, Wright. Jeff Shirley, Director of the Waterloo Convention Visitor's Bureau together with Jan Payne and Tami Frerichs presented the marketing program for the convention bureau. Mr. Shirley was pleased to announce that the third quarter of 1989 had the large increase in hotel/motel tax since its initiation. A total of $89,576 was received by the City during the third quarter. Mr. Shirley emphasized that the Bureau has made service a priority concentrating its efforts in the group travel department and convention areas. He indicated their appreciation for the City's assistance in developing the five year capital improvement program at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. The Team Waterloo Marketing Plan was presented. The game plan includes three sets of team members including managers, coaches and players. The Council was asked to join the team to make our City a winner. Councilperson Fox inquired as to whether or not they received many complaints on the parking situation in the downtown. Mr. Shirley indicated that when there are large conventions at the Civic Center, that parking is a problem in the ramp. As these situations occur they are dealt with as needed.
