HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/16/1989CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION January 16, 1989 5:30 p.m. Large Conference Room Members present: Mayor McKinley, Brown, Fox, Angel, Buck. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Preliminary Leap to the Future - Year 2000 and Beyond Strategic Development Plan for the City of Waterloo. Fedon Petrides, Chairperson of the Leap to the Future Steering Committee, introduced committee members present, including Frances Mills and Donna Nelson. The Year 2000 Plan is a comprehensive community -wide strategic planning effort that will develop a common vision for the City for the Year 2000. Work began on the Plan on February 29, 1988, Leap Day, when approximately 120 local business leaders and citizens spent this day at the Conway Civic Center developing their ideas on what they would expect the City to be in the Year 2000. As a result of this meeting and numerous meetings by the Steering Committee and Resource Committee, a mission was developed, together with mission statements, in the areas of progressive government, economic development, quality of life and human relations. Each of these four areas were subdivided into various goals and strategies. Several amendments were provided by the Steering Committee and reviewed. It was the recommendation of the Steering Committee that said plan be adopted, as amended, and that the Council direct the Committee to proceed with the development of an action plan which will prioritize, schedule and assign jurisdictional responsibility to the various strategies outlined in the Plan. No official action was taken by the Council at this time. With no further business before the Work Session, the meeting was adjourned. Larry P. Burger Clerk/Auditor
