ORAL PRESENTATIONS
97511 - Kent Crowell, 1490 Newell Street, asked that the Council consider a truck
embargo on Newell Street after its reconstruction. He explained that currently
the street is being reconstructed and has caused considerable access problems
to residents in the area. He asked that temporary access be provided to them.
Mayor McKinley stated that it has not been a past practice of the City to
provide alternative access to residential areas and cited other examples, such
as Ridgeway Avenue, that had not been serviced with a secondary access point
during reconstruction.
Don Temeyer, Planning and Development Director, stated that Dubuque Road is
scheduled to be reopened this week, which will greatly relieve the truck
traffic on Newell Street. He also commented that the Fifth and Sixth Street
Extension will greatly relieve the truck traffic on Newell Street and Donald
Street. A preliminary staff recommendation would be that an embargo would not
be recommended on Newell Street until after the completion of the Sixth Street
Extension.
