Oral Presentations - continued
Bob Walker, 1420 Mitchell, stated they were having the "Cedar River Discovery Days"
this Saturday, May 21, 1994. They will have breakfast on the river followed by
pontoon boat rides to share what a great asset we have to offer on the river. There
will be about 60 kids from various junior high schools who will be taught water
safety, how to fish and instructions on the junior rowing program. They will have
pop, hot dogs, etc. donated for the project, as well as volunteers to instruct and
help out for the fun day on the Cedar River.
Bob Sieglaff, 914 West Third Street, complained that West Third was a heavily
traveled street, and that they have not seen any street sweeping done in that area.
He also stated that the corner sewer drains need to be cleaned as they are not
draining properly.
Bill Lemke, 149 Madison, stated he was tired of hearing the public say that there was
nothing for the kids to do in this area. He said in Thursday's paper, there was
half a page of classes for kids that are available through the Recreation Commission.
He also stated there are programs available through the Library, Parks, Grout Museum,
YMCA and YWCA. He said the programs for kids are there, but we have to get the word
out about these programs as the public is not aware of their availability.
Police Chief Bernal Koehrsen stated that on Saturday, May 21, 1994 KGAN will co -host
a live telethon broadcasted from the Waterloo Recreation Center & Arts Center, 225
Commercial Street, from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. to help raise money for the Police Hiring
Grant match. He encouraged everyone to view the telethon and consider making a
pledge that evening.
Elaine Jaquith, 810 Cornwall, is concerned about the consideration of giving TCI an
extension on its current franchise agreement, let alone a ten-year extension. She
feels instead of extending the agreement we should be looking at ways to get out of
the contract and possibly shop for a new cable company. She feels it is a good idea
and agrees that both the public access channel and the C -SPAN channel can co -exist
by sharing the same channel. As long as it is understood that C -SPAN would be on an
"available only" schedule and still allow newcomers to schedule programs on public
access.
Mollenhoff/Jordan
