ORAL PRESENTATIONS 102390 - Wayne Nathem, 548 Cloverdale Avenue, questioned the private sector financing for the $975,000 U.S. Department of Justice grant for hiring policemen and wanted the Mayor to inform the citizens of Waterloo where the matching funds were obtained. Mayor Rooff stated it was in the grant application as he mentioned during the campaign. The Mayor stated that Jeff Eaton, President of Norwest Bank, guaranteed he would raise the sufficient funds plus this Council has collectively pledged the first $2,000.00. Kathy Oberle, 1101 Western Avenue, wished to welcome the new Mayor and Council. She also wanted to point out that she would appreciate it if the public could get a chance to comment or discuss an item on the agenda. She stated she was a little concerned about certain comments made by department heads in the paper, especially by one department head's comment about the Department of Natural Resources that maybe they will get off our back. She does not feel this is professional language to be utilized by an individual who is representing her or the citizens of Waterloo. Ms. Oberle also would like the City to check on the season ticket sales, especially the senior citizens season passes at the golf courses, to see if they are down from past years. She is concerned about the escalation of the fee for the seasonal golfer who is retired and would appreciate the City taking a second look into the increase. Mayor Rooff stated that he has tried to start something with this Council by trying to make City Hall a little more pleasant and does want the public's involvement and will allow people to speak. He will look into the golf pro receipts. In regard to the department head's comment in the paper, it was prior to this administration taking office, and he will be talking to all department heads. He feels they know the spirit he and the Council are trying to accomplish to restore pride in the City and will address those concerns. L. C. Hennessey, 558 Montero Drive, stated this was a very somber occasion and justly so with the alteration of a new system here. He also wanted to question the new parliamentary procedure used this evening when addressing the Mayor. Mayor Rooff stated it was felt it would be appropriate to address each other from a seated position rather than standing to be recognized as Mr. Mollenhoff is unable to stand to state a motion. Mayor Rooff asked for a moment of silence to remember Harry and Polly Slife who were killed in an automobile accident east of Decorah, Iowa on Sunday, January 2, 1994. Moved by Krizek, seconded by Jordan that the above oral comments be received and placed on file. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. ADJOURNMENT 102391 - Moved by Getty, seconded by Collier that the Council adjourn at 7:39 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. Tom Campbell Acting Clerk/Auditor
