Jordan now present at 5:05 p.m. City Engineer Eric Thorson reviewed the list of streets approved for reconstruction for which surveying is underway or complete. He presented four additional streets for consideration in the 1996 street improvement program. Kamille Court is recommended for consideration by the City Engineer due to the extensive undermining of the street. Ranchero Road and Martin Road have been requested for upgrading by developers in the area due to the heavy truck traffic that is seen or will be anticipated. The County Engineer and Hawkeye Community College have requested that Orange Road from Highway 21 to Dysart Road be considered. This road stretch would include both County and City right of way so the cost would be shared $146,000 by the County and $192,000 by the City program. Street Superintendent Dick Grimm reported that the outside wheel track on Orange Road is already seeing failure. Councilperson Anders suggested that the members of the council consider prioritizing their districts using the percentage of improved streets in each ward as the basis for their share of the $5.5 Million dollars in local option sales tax funding. The following percentages and corresponding dollar amounts are estimated: Ward 1 Ward 2 Ward 3 Ward 4 Ward 5 22.6% 21.1% 20.6% 19.4% 15.6% $1,115,000 $1,095,000 $1,050,000 $ 989,404 $ 795,000 The Engineer's office will provide an accurate breakdown of funding levels and a work session will be scheduled for July 10th with the council preparing their lists based on the percentages per ward. City Engineer Eric Thorson reported that Aldi Foods will be losing its lease and is planning to construct a new store on Schukei Road this winter and spring with the opening date set for June 1st. The City Engineer asked the Council to consider including Schukei Road in this year's street improvements program. The cost of the improvements are estimated at $66,000 and these funds should be available due to the low bids received for this year's projects. It was recommended that this request be scheduled for approval at the July 10th work session. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Getty, seconded by Krizek that the meeting be adjourned at 5:40 p.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Mollenhoff. Motion carried.
