Members present: Anders, Jordan, Murphy, Getty, Krizek,
Mollenhoff, Collier.
Moved by Krizek, seconded by Jordan that the Agenda, as proposed,
be approved. Ayes: Six. Absent: Collier. Motion carried.
Agenda items for the council meeting to be held on Monday, February
27, 1995, were reviewed and discussed with representatives from
departments that had items on the agenda.
Council discussed the allocation of the Hotel/Motel tax funding to
the recommended agencies. It was the consensus that funding needed
to be found for the Chain of Lakes Board. After discussion of
several possible areas to cut it was agreed to recommend the
following changes to the Advisory Board before final adoption by
the City Council. Chain of Lakes would be receive $5,000 with the
Cedar Valley Trail funding reduced by $1,000, the My Waterloo Days
funding reduced by $1,000 and Silos and Smokestacks funding reduced
$3,000.
Councilperson Collier present at 4:50 p.m.
Rochelle Brown introduced the Tax Efficiency Council to the City
Council. Areas have been identified to foster cooperative efforts
at reducing the overall tax levy for citizens of Waterloo. The
group consists of administrators from each entity and input from
State agencies as well. Areas targeted for cooperation include
repairing School parking lots, shared mowing equipment, sites for
street sweeping storage and shared purchasing efforts. The Tax
Efficiency Council will be meeting quarterly and Rochelle will act
as a liaison to the three Boards and Council to keep them informed
of items which will need their support.
With no further business before the council, it was moved by
Jordan, seconded by Getty that the meeting be adjourned at 5:10
p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
