The 1987 Land Use Policy Plan was discussed. Bob Stevenson, City Planner, reported that the Planning Commission had conducted a public hearing on said policy, as well as an open house for the general public on July 8, 1987. Additional input had been solicited from such groups as the Home Builders Association and others. Bob summarized the Policy Plan as consisting of five major areas, including overall growth and development; storm water drainage/ flood plain management; public utilities; transportation; and land use. Each of these five issue areas are accompanied by goals and policies. Mr. Stevenson explained that the Policy Plan is an overall guide to future growth and development of our community. It is a flexible document and is subject to change. The last official Plan was adopted by the Waterloo City Council in 1967. In 1978, an interim Plan was developed but not adopted by the Council. Major emphasis of this plan include economic development and the preservation of the existing housing stock in the community. Councilperson Lichty questioned several of the statements contained in the plan. Bob Stevenson, City Planner, reviewed the Land Use Map and pointed out major changes between the 1978 Land Uses and those proposed in this Plan. A copy of the Land Use Map will be printed after adoption of the Plan. With no further questions before the Council, the Work Session was adjourned. Larry P. Burger Clerk/Auditor
