HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/22/91CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION April 22, 1991 6:00 p.m. Large Conference Room Members present: Mayor McKinley, Brown, Buck, Wright, Dell, and Angel. Members absent: Budak and Fox. The Agenda, as proposed, was approved. The People Advocating a Student Stadium (PASS) presented an architectural rendering and plans for a new track and football facility at Central Intermediate School. Bob Freedman, spokesperson for the group, stated that the purpose of the presentation was to seek endorsement and support of the program and not necessarily for funding. Their presentation identified the need for the facility and its impact on the city. The group was formulated because there currently is not an adequate facility for track in the Waterloo area. An architect was employed and preliminary plans indicate a 6,000 seat capacity football stadium to be located north of Central Intermediate main building and the relocation of several playing fields in the area. Total proposed cost of the facility is $2,050,000, Private donations for the entire amount will be solicited. To date, no major gift has been accepted. It has been the recommendation of the Waterloo Community School District Board of Education that work not begin on the facility until all money is pledged. Approximate construction time is seven months. The school is participating by donating the land and agreeing to maintain the facility after construction. Traffic flow in and out of the area was discussed. The Central Intermediate area lends itself well to traffic flow out of the area with the Greenhill Road facility located to the east. Committee members answered questions. No official action was taken. With no further business before the Work Session, the meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m. Larry P. Burger City Clerk/Auditor
