ORAL PRESENTATIONS
102785 - Dorthy Carter, 435 Conger, wished to thank everyone with the city who helped her get
the house at 441 Conger cleaned up. She was wondering if she could personally clean
up the yard, rake and, get rid of the wood and material scattered all over the
property located at 437 Conger.
Mayor Rooff stated the city is in the process of changing its ordinance to give the
city the authority to ask that a place be cleaned up. If it is not done in a short
time frame, the city will clean it up and assess the charges against the property.
Jim Walsh, City Attorney, informed Ms. Carter that the city could not take a position
on her cleaning up the property one way or the other since it is not city property.
He said he would suspect there would be very few people who would complain if she
cleaned up the yard for them. If they did complain, you certainly could remove
yourself from the premises.
A resident complained about a tape his 13 -year old daughter purchased at the mall and
was wondering if it had been brought to the council's attention. His daughter bought
the tape at a music store and it is full of profanity. The tape said you must be 18 -
years old to buy it. He turned it over to Officer Hahn and the Waterloo Police
Department has had it in their custody since last week.
Jim Walsh, City Attorney, stated Officer Hahn will have to submit a report to the
Attorney's office if he has a problem with what to do with the complaint. He should
know how to handle it, and if he has questions, he will come to the attorney. When
he is finished with his investigation, he will report back to the resident as to what
he has found out about the situation.
Murphy/Collier
that the above oral comments be received, placed on file and the Council be adjourned
at 7:44 p.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Mollenhoff. Motion carried.
