Prior to a vote on the above motion, the following comments were heard.
Councilperson Steve Schmitt noted that Bob Griffin is being appointed to his
third term on the Library Board of Trustees and asked if the city is getting a
sufficient number of folks applying for our boards and commissions.
Mayor Hurley responded yes and no. Mayor Hurley noted that his secretary has a
number of applications on hand, but most of those applicants are applying for a
specific interest/board and have to wait for an opening. Mayor Hurley noted
that the Library Director forwarded the recommendation to reappoint Mr. Griffin
for his third term because a major remodeling project for the library's second
floor will be starting which will entail a fund-raising campaign, and the
Library Board feels continuity in the board is important as they move forward.
Mayor Hurley commented that he doesn't think we could ever have "enough"
applications for our boards and commissions. Mayor Hurley noted that any time
he is on the radio or in public, he talks about the need for applications for
the boards and commissions. Mayor Hurley noted that the application form for
the boards and commissions is available on-line.
Following comments a vote was taken on the above motion with the following
result. Ayes: Five. Absent: Getty, Greenwood. Motion carried.
