RESOLUTION NO. 2018-286
RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE WATERLOO POLICE
DEPARTMENT TO WRITE MUNICIPAL TICKETS
WHERE APPLICABLE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Waterloo believes that protecting its citizens
is paramount to ensuring a safe and peaceful community, and WHEREAS, a citation, in most
circumstances, can be issued as a violation of either a state or municipal law, and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo does not receive revenue for citations issued as
violations of state law and this loss of revenue has a direct impact on the city budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Waterloo Police Department is hereby directed by the City Council to
issue tickets as municipal violations unless the violation is an indictable offense.
Section 2. That the City of Waterloo shall not implement quotas for tickets written by
officers in a given period.
