" O I PARTICIPATE IN DOWNTOWN EVENTS Main Street Waterloo hosted a total of 12 events, spanning 31 days, attracting 40,000 attendees. FRIDAY'L00 is our city's Friday After Work event with 8 dates throughout the summer. Last summer we saw an increase in attendance through collaboration with entities throughout our city and have continued this into 2018. Collaborators include groups such as Healthy Hometown, Cedar Valley Bike Collective, and The Runner's Flat. MY WATERLOO DAYS is a 4 day, city-wide annual festival bringing thousands to Downtown Waterloo. In 2018 we selected entertainment and marketed around the theme: Prince's"Let's Go Crazy."The city embraced this theme and came out in support, with our largest Friday night crowd in years. Due to a severe weather threat and flood warnings, we had to cancel the Saturday events for the safety of the attendees, vendors, and entertainers. We successfully added a new event, Drive-in at the Expo to wrap up the festivities. MAYOR'S INDEPENDENCE DAY EXTRAVAGANZA was a new event in 2017 with an estimated 4,000 attendees. This year is looking to be even larger with more live music and entertainment added to the lineup and the rescheduling of several of the My Waterloo Days events that had to be canceled due to weather. BBQ'L00 & BLUES TOO is Waterloo's annual BBQ event. The two day festival features live blues and BBQ. Teams come from all over the mid-west and beyond. MAYOR'S FUN RUN is an annual event with 4th graders from Waterloo Community Schools and the Mayor of Waterloo running through the streets of Downtown Waterloo. RESTAURANT WEEK is a state-wide Main Street promotion to visit locally owned restaurants. We worked with several Downtown eateries to provide a unique dining experience. TOUR DE'L00 is an opportunity for 250 attendees to see first-hand the progress that is continually made in Downtown Waterloo each year. The tour provides attendees the chance to go into recent developments and re-developed spaces throughout Downtown. DOWNTOWN TRICK-OR-TREAT is the annual Halloween event that brings families downtown as the Holiday season officially kicks off. In 2017, roughly 700 children and their families partook in the Halloween Downtown Showcase. WINTER WONDER'L00 is a Christmas event focused on bringing families downtown, with Santa& his elves brining joy to over 1,000 attendees. Children are given the opportunity to pick out gifts for family members followed by a tree lighting ceremony. SHOP SMALL SATURDAYS is a national event encouraging the community to shop at locally owned stores. In 2017 we took this event to the next level and hosted Shop Downtown Saturdays for the entire holiday season. Partnering with downtown property owners, we were able to have 10 pop-up shops as well as promote all of the downtown businesses. FUNKY JUNK-A-L00 is re-purposed paradise bringing vendors from all over the Midwest to showcase their merchandise. Even with a late season blizzard, more than 3,000 attendees traveled to Downtown Waterloo to shop and dine. TASTE OF `L00 is our opportunity to showcase the variety of dining options in Downtown Waterloo. 2018 saw more than 200 attendees visiting 11 different restaurants throughout downtown. We moved the event to April to showcase the walkability of downtown. BUSINESS CONTACTS Former Executive Director, Tavis Hall, and new Executive Director, Jessica Rucker, have visited ..., with district business owners, property owners, and developers. Whether it be through regular contact, check-in visits, introductory visits, or issue-based visits, MSW has represented downtown interests - � by gauging downtown opinion and representing those opinions to all interested parties. In 2018/2019, continued issues are downtown parking, occupancy of commercial spaces and connectivity of the city's east &west side. While there have been many more projects completed in f 2017/2018, the number of permits demonstrates a solid growth within the district. Projects like the Hotel RL, Waterloo Convention Center at Five Sullivan Brothers Plaza, Art Block and other are coming in late 2018, early y 2019. COMMERCIAL MARKETING PROGRAM Main Street Waterloo began organizing a marketing pU�N— �j0bN co-op, which would allow businesses to buy into a Downtown Waterloo marketing program. Marketing Outlets will include, but are not limited to commercials (TV and radio), online and web-based ads and printing At a discounted fee. ,.." PU COORDINATE EFFORTS WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES IN DOWNTOWN Main Street Waterloo continued to be active in I advocating the needs or Downtown Waterloo. The Public Y( Market and Lincoln Park are two of the projects we are ksfrY := currently working on. DOWNTOWN HOUSING The efforts are ongoing, but with the completion of Phase I and Phase II of the Grand Crossing development 104 units at 100% occupancy have been added to downtown. Housing projects continue as the Art Block project, and Masonic Temple get underway. We are excited ` to bring more people to our city center. f ADVISE AND ASSIST WITH DOWNTOWN RIVERFRONT URBAN RENEWAL AND REDEVELOPMENT Main Street Waterloo has served on the Riverloop Amphitheatre Inc board and worked with RAI to program the Amphitheatre space. In 2017/2018, Main Street Waterloo sponsored events bringing attendees to the riverfront space.
