HomeMy WebLinkAbout4198-10/07/1996 ORDINANCE NO. 4198 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE WATERLOO ELECTRICAL CODE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA: That Subsection ( 1) of Section 11-3 , Definitions; Section 11-71, Licenses required; Subsection (a) of Section 11-72, Application for license; applications generally; Section 11-73, Examination fee; Section 11-74, Issuance of licenses; and Subsection (c) of Section 11-76, Contractor' s license; of the Waterloo Electrical Code, are hereby repealed in their entirety; that new Subsection ( 1) of Section 11-3 , Definitions; Section 11-71, Licenses required; Subsection (a) of Section 11-72, Application for license; applications generally; Section 11-73, Examination fee; Section 11- 74, Issuance of licenses; and Subsection (c) of Section 11-76, Contractor' s license; of the Waterloo Electrical Code, are hereby enacted in lieu thereof as follows: Sec. 11-3 . Definitions. The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this Code, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: ( 1) Licensed or qualified person means any person who has been examined and licensed in the City of Waterloo by the examining board and has its approval to install, remove, alter or make additions to any electrical work in the city. Sec. 11-71. Licenses required. No person shall engage in the business of installing, maintaining, altering or repairing any electrical equipment within the scope of this ordinance unless such person has obtained from the City of Waterloo an electrical contractor' s license or an appliance dealer' s license, nor shall any such contractor or dealer employ any but a Waterloo licensed electrical journeyman or Waterloo licensed appliance wireman, employed by and working under the direction of the holder of the Waterloo license for one of the classes of licenses prescribed by this ordinance; except that any person not licensed shall be classed as an apprentice or helper to a licensed journeyman electrician or licensed appliance wireman and shall be permitted to work on the same job site with the Waterloo licensed journeyman electrician or Waterloo licensed appliance wireman present at all times, at a ratio of not more than three apprentices or helpers to one licensed journeyman electrician or licensed appliance wireman. Sec. 11-72. Application for license; examinations generally. (a) Any person desiring to be examined for a Waterloo license as an electrical contractor, electrical appliance dealer, journeyman electrician or appliance wireman shall make application therefor to the Board of Electrical Examiners and Appeals on forms obtained from the office of the electrical inspector. Sec. 11-73 . Examination fee. The application for examination for a Waterloo license shall be accompanied by an examination fee in such amount as established by resolution of the city council. Sec. 11-74. Issuance of licenses. Upon satisfactorily passing the appropriate examination and paying the appropriate fees, the applicant shall be entitled to a Waterloo license, according to the terms of his/her application. (c) The holder of an electrical contractor' s license is permitted to engage in the business of and to secure permits for the installation, alteration and repair of any electrical devices, appliances or equipment, but this license shall not authorize the holder thereof to do work of installation, alteration or repair without also being the holder of a valid electrical journeyman license for the City of Waterloo.
