AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 1993 CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, BY
REPEALING SECTION 14-2, UNIFORM FIRE CODE
ADOPTED, SECTION 14-3, LIFE SAFETY CODE
ADOPTED, AND SECTION 14-4, FIRE PREVENTION
CODE AND UNIFORM BUILDING CODE ADOPTED, OF
ARTICLE I, IN GENERAL, OF CHAPTER 14, FIRE
PREVENTION AND PROTECTION; AND ENACTING IN
LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION 14-2, UNIFORM FIRE
CODE ADOPTED, SECTION 14-3, LIFE SAFETY CODE
ADOPTED, AND SECTION 14-4, FIRE PREVENTION
CODE AND UNIFORM BUILDING CODE ADOPTED, OF
ARTICLE I, IN GENERAL OF CHAPTER 14, FIRE
PREVENTION AND PROTECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO,
IOWA, as follows:
That Section 14-2, Uniform Fire Code Adopted, Section 14-3,
Life Safety Code Adopted, and Section 14-4, Fire Prevention Code
and Uniform Building Code Adopted, of Article I, In General, of
Chapter 14, Fire Prevention and Protection, of the 1993 Code of
Ordinances of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, are hereby repealed in
their entirety; that a new Section 14-2, Uniform Fire Code Adopted,
a new Section 14-3, Life Safety Code Adopted, and a new Section 14-
4, Fire Prevention Code and Uniform Building Code Adopted, of
Article I, In General, of Chapter 14, Fire Prevention and
Protection, of the 1993 Code of Ordinances of the City of Waterloo,
Iowa, are hereby enacted in lieu thereof as follows:
Sec. 14-2. Uniform fire code, adopted.
That certain document marked and designated as the "Uniform
Fire Code, 1994 Edition, published by the International Conference
of Building Officials," be and the same is hereby adopted as the
fire code of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, to prescribe regulations
consistent with nationally recognized good practice for the
safeguarding to a reasonable degree of life and property from the
hazards of fire and explosion arising from the storage, handling
and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices, and from
conditions hazardous to life or property in the use or occupancy of
buildings or premises. The same is hereby adopted and incorporated
as if fully set out at length herein. At least one (1) copy of
such code is on file and available for inspection in the City
Clerk's Office and fire headquarters.
Section. 14-3. Life safety code, adopted.
That certain document marked and designated as the "Life
Safety Code, 1994 Edition, published by the National Fire
Protection Association," be and the same is hereby adopted. The
same is hereby adopted and incorporated as if fully set out at
length herein. At least one (1) copy of such code is on file and
available for inspection in the City Clerk's Office and fire
headquarters.
Section 14-4. Fire prevention code and uniform building code,
adopted.
Those certain documents marked and designated as "NFPA 1, Fire
Prevention Code, of the National Fire Protection Association, and
its incorporated standards and codes as published in the National
Fire Codes of the National Fire Protection Association, 1994
Edition" and the "Uniform Building Code, 1994 Edition, published in
1994 by the International Conference of Building Officials." The
same are hereby adopted and incorporated as if fully set out at
length herein. At least one copy of such code is on file and
available for inspection in the City Clerk's office and fire
headquarters, and the provisions thereof shall be controlling
within the limits of the City.
