RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CEDAR VALLEY GO
5210 ! FIT FAMILIES ALLIANCE COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS, Cedar Valley Go 5210 ! Fit Families is an alliance
' dedicated to improving the wellness of tomorrow' s families today
through healthy habits and lifestyles, and
WHEREAS, the incidence of childhood obesity is rising at an
alarming rate and sets the stage for increased risk of heart
_ disease, diabetes, cancers, and other conditions associated with
the added burden on the body' s ability to maintain health, and
WHEREAS, the numerals 5210 reflect the daily guidelines
that the American Medical Association and the American
Pediatrics Association recommend to help reduced obesity for
youth:
• 5 servings of fruits and vegetables
• 2 hours maximum screen time outside of school hours
• 1 hour of exercise
• 0 beverages with sugar
and
WHEREAS, the Cedar Valley Go 5210 ! Fit Families Alliance
Committee includes representation from these organizations :
Black Hawk County Health Department, Success Street, Peoples'
Community Health Clinic, Head Start, Northeast Iowa Food Bank,
Waterloo Community Schools, Communities in Schools, City of
Cedar Falls, Iowa State Extension Office, YMCA, YWCA, University
of Northern Iowa, Allen Healthcare, and Wheaton Franciscan
Healthcare .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Waterloo City Council supports the
efforts of the Cedar Valley Go 5210 ! Fit Families Alliance
Committee and all efforts to reduce childhood obesity.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of January, 2009 .
