HomeMy WebLinkAbout3980-11/01/1993ORDINANCE NO. 3980 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 1988 CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 16-8(a), REGARDING FEES FOR SERVICE, OF CHAPTER 16, GARBAGE AND REFUSE; AND BY ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SUBSECTION 16-8(a), REGARDING FEES FOR SERVICE, TO CHAPTER 16, GARBAGE AND REFUSE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, as follows: 1. Subsection 16-8(a), as amended by Ordinance No. 3950, adopted on June 21, 1993, regarding fees for services of Chapter 16, Garbage and Refuse, of the 1988 Code of Ordinances of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, that currently reads as follows: Section 16-8. Fee for service. (a) The expense of garbage and refuse collection and disposal and related solid waste services as determined by the City Council shall become a charge against the owner or occupant of every dwelling unit to whom service is made available. 1) For all bills prior to January 4, 1994, the fee shall be $10.00 per month. 2) After January 3, 1994, the amount of the fee for this service shall be in two parts. The first shall be a fixed sum of $8.50 per month which shall be charged to all dwelling units and shall entitle each dwelling unit to dispose of one standard container, item, bag, or bundle per week. The standard container shall be any item, bag, bundle, or can meeting the requirements of the adopted policy, limited to 35 gallons in size and shall not exceed 50 pounds in weight. The second part shall consist of a fee charged for each additional standard bag, bundle, item, or container set out for disposal. The fee shall be collected by requiring the purchase of a tag, coupon, or stamp that must be affixed to the item placed out for disposal. The fee or charge for this stamp, coupon, or tag shall be set by resolution of the City Council. IS HEREBY REPEALED IN ITS ENTIRETY. 2. A new Subsection 16-8(a) is enacted as follows: Section 16-8. Fee for service. After April 3, 1994, the amount of the fee for this service shall be in two parts.
