AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18, HEATING, AIR
CONDITIONING AND VENTILATING, OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA:
That Chapter 18, Heating, Air Conditioning and
Ventilating, of the 1988 Code of Ordinances of the City of
Waterloo, Iowa, is hereby repealed in its entirety; that a
new Chapter 18, Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilating,
of the 1988 Code of Ordinances of the City of Waterloo,
Iowa, is hereby enacted in lieu thereof as follows:
Chapter 18
HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATING.
Sec. 18-1. Ordinance No. 1971 Saved from Repeal.
Ordinance No. 1971, adopted May 25, 1954, including all
amendments adopted through November 14, 1983, which
constitutes the heating, air conditioning and ventilating
code of the city, is hereby expressly saved from repeal and
is continued in full force and effect.
Sec. 18-2. Amendment to Article XVIII of Ordinance No.
1971.
Article XVIII, Summer Air Conditioning, of Ordinance
No. 1971 is hereby amended as follows:
Section 1801, Approval, is hereby repealed in its
entirety;
Section 1802, Automatic Fire Doors and Dampers, is
hereby repealed in its entirety;
Section 1803, Fresh Air Inlets, is hereby repealed in
its entirety; and
Section 1804, Air Filters, is hereby repealed in its
entirety.
Sec. 18-3 to 18-20. RESERVED.
Sec. 18-21. Uniform Mechanical Code adopted.
A certain document, copies of which are on file and
available in the office of the City Clerk of the City of
Waterloo, Iowa, being marked and designated as "Uniform
Mechanical Code, 1991 Edition, published by the
International Conference of Building Officials and the
International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical
Officials", be and the same is hereby adopted as the
Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilating Code of the City
of Waterloo, Iowa, to provide complete requirements for the
installation and maintenance of heating, ventilating,
cooling and refrigeration systems. Each and all of the
regulations, provisions, conditions, and terms of such
"Uniform Mechanical Code" are hereby adopted and made a part
hereof as if fully set out in this chapter and are hereby
adopted by this reference.
Sec. 18-22. Amendment to Part I of Uniform Mechanical Code.

Part I, Administrative, of the Uniform Mechanical
Code, is hereby amended as follows:
All of Part I, Administrative, of the Uniform
Mechanical Code, is hereby repealed in its entirety.
Sec. 18-23. Amendment to Chapter 20 of Uniform Mechanical
Code.
Chapter 20, Commercial Hoods and Kitchen Ventilation,
of the Uniform Mechanical Code, is hereby amended as follows:
That Sec. 2002(a)(1), regarding kitchen ventilation
systems, is hereby repealed in its entirety; that NFPA
96, Vapor Removal from Cooking Equipment, 1991 Edition,
is hereby adopted in lieu thereof. A copy of NFPA 96
is on file in the office of the City Clerk.
