RESOLUTION NO. 2009-921
RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR HUMAN SERVICES
CAMPUS INCLUDING THE NORTHEAST IOWA FOOD
BANK.
WHEREAS, the concept of a central human services agency
campus has been considered in Waterloo for some 30 years, and
WHEREAS, it was the Northeast Iowa Food Bank that initiated
a more-focused community effort at making the campus a reality
when they began their capital campaign a few years ago to
relocate from their present quarters to a new facility, and
WHEREAS, there is a strong and growing interest within the
human services agency entities to take part in such a campus,
and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo has targeted city-owned
property in the Rath area for such a development, and fully
supports the central campus concept because of its real
potential for improving delivery of services to clients, for
improving the operational efficiencies of the providers, and for
revitalizing a "brownfield" area, and
WHEREAS, two human services agencies have the funding to
immediately proceed with plans for locating on the campus while
the Food Bank' s plans are still developing.
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Waterloo City Council endorses and
supports the Northeast Iowa Food Bank as being a part of the
Human Services Campus in the future, and that it is the City' s
intent to faithfully work with the Food Bank to include them in
the campus development as they continue in the campaign for
their much needed new facility which will serve not only clients
in the Cedar Valley, but also much of Northeast Iowa.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of September, 2009 .
