RESOLUTION NO. 2019-900 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH UNIFICATION CITY, REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. WHEREAS, Waterloo City has a growing Liberian population and some of the Liberians living in the community are from Marbigi County and Unification City, and WHEREAS, Mayor Quentin Hart was visited by Mayor Samuel Berrian and Sylvester Hina, Chief of Police of Unification City in Margibi County, Republic of Liberia, Mr. Jake Johnson, President of the Liberian community in Waterloo and Reverend Alexander B. Collins, Liaison of the Unification City, to discuss establishing a sister city relationship between Unification City and the City of Waterloo, Iowa, and WHEREAS, the leaders of both communities desire a social friendship that promotes sharing ideas, cultural understanding, and education between the two communities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the City of Waterloo, Iowa, hereby establishes a sister city relationship with Unification City, Mboo Statutory District, Marbigi County, Republic of Liberia, and looks forward to exchanging cultural, educational, and commercial ideas.
