This represents a 33% reduction in the current 6-lane throughway but allows for beautification enhancements and future traffic volumes. We understand the allure of a 2 lane approach (a 67% lane -mile reduction) if one thinks only of current traffic volumes. However, we will soon see a large expansion of people and resulting traffic at the CVTW campus with the LSB and LSBX move to the T-1 building this year (-150 employees relocated within a year and more to come). In addition, we expect more development on campus with UNI's presence and new amenities on the north side of our campus which will drive even more visitors and employees to the western nexus of downtown Waterloo. Two lanes would not be as amenable to traffic movement to our area as would four lanes. The SportsPlex, new housing, Singlespeed, the HCC Center, the riverfront amenities and other businesses and venues would benefit from an easier access to downtown and our campus area. On its own, the completed new University Avenue ought to attract more vehicular, recreational and pedestrian traffic than we've ever experienced so that 4 lanes are more realistic than two. Thank you and the City Council for supporting a 4-lane approach to Phase 3 of the University Avenue reconstruction/renewal.
