RESOLUTION NO. 2020-68 RESOLUTION APPROVING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF WATERLOO POLICY REGARDING RESIDENCY OF CRITICAL MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES AND CITY DEPARTMENT HEADS BY REMOVING FIRE FIGHTERS, WATERLOO FIRE RESCUE MEDICAL SUPERVISORS, AND REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER COORDINATOR, FROM THE POLICY. WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo has established a policy with regards to residency of critical municipal employees and department heads, and WHEREAS, it has been determined the policy is too restrictive for the purposes of a competitive hiring pool for fire and rescue related positions, and WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo seeks to establish a fair and competitive residency policy, with regards to said employees, to within a 60-mile radius of corporate City limits. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Policy Regarding Residency of Critical Municipal Employees and City Department Heads is hereby amended as follows: Section 1. That "and fire fighters; fire mechanics; Waterloo Fire Rescue medical supervisors; Reginal Training Center Coordinator;"be struck from the section titled Policy. Section 2. That "Fire Chief', be struck from number five under the section titled Provision. Section 3. That the Fire Department establish, per the Fire Chiefs recommendation, departmental rules and regulations requiring personnel to live within a 60-mile radius of the corporate city limits. Section 4. That the Civil Service process be updated in accordance with this resolution.
