RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUEST OF AIRPORT
DIRECTOR FOR A DIR
ECTIVE TO BEGIN WORKING WITH
OFFICIALS FROM THE FEDERAL AVIATION
ADMINISTRATION TO DECOMMISSION AND FUTURE
PERMANENT CLOSURE, OF RUNWAY 6-24 AT THE
WATERLOO REGIONAL AIRPORT, DUE TO THE SEVERE
PAVEMENT CONDITION OF THIS RUNWAY SURFACE,
AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO
EXECUTE DOCUMENTS REGARDING THE
DECOMMISSIONING OR CLOSURE PROCESS.
WHEREAS, due to the severe deteriorating pavement conditions of Runway 6-24 at the
Waterloo Regional Airport, and estimated repairs for said Runway 6-24, the Waterloo Regional
Airport Liaisons have made a recommendation to the City Council to decommission and
permanently close said Runway 6-24, and
WHEREAS, due to the severe deteriorating pavement conditions of Runway 6-24, and
estimated repairs for said Runway 6-24, the Airport Director has requested a directive to begin
working with officials from the Federal Aviation Administration to decommission and prepare
Runway 6-24 for permanent closure, at the Waterloo Regional Airport.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA, that due to the severe deteriorating pavement conditions of Runway 6-24,
and estimated repairs for said Runway 6-24 the Airport Director is hereby dir
ected to begin
working with officials from the Federal Aviation Administration to decommission and
permanently close Runway 6-24, and authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute documents
with regards to the decommissioning and closure of Runway 6-24 at the Waterloo Regional
Airport.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10t'day of February 2020.
