City of Waterloo Launches GIS Based COVID-19 Hub Website
With the hundreds of updates each day about COVID-19, the City of Waterloo has launched a
Geographic Information System (GIS) hub site to act as a real-time up-to-date tool to help
Waterloo residents. The public is urged to visit this site for information about how to remotely
interact with city departments, closures, and to keep apprised of the latest updates from the
City, Black Hawk County Health Department, Iowa Department of Public Health News, CDC, and
the World Health Organization through social media feeds and links.
The site also features a statewide, county by county case map, Coronavirus COVID-19 Global
Cases by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University
(JHU) and Esri Maps for Public Policy. These dashboards show active cases, travel advisories,
vulnerable populations, healthcare centers and more. A recent interview with Dr. Nafissa Cisse-
Egbuonye, Public Health Director of the Black Hawk County Health Department is also on the
site.
"The status of this situation and its impact on our community changes hour by hour," says
Mayor Quentin Hart. "We want to make it as easy as possible for the public to find accurate
information from sources they can trust."
The site was developed with the help of Esri ArcGIS and their disaster response program. The
site can be found at www.citvofwaterlooiowa.comjcovid-19
