MEMORIAL HALL COMMISSION
August 28, 2013

Veterans Memorial Hall
Members present: White, Miller, Hastings, Hockey, Courbat, Ticknor, Dennis, Robinson,
McMahon, Mrzlak, Ambrosy.
Members absent: Peyton.
Also present: Rick Hurtado, Suzy Schares.
Moved by Ambrosy, seconded by Hockey that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Eleven.
Moved by Dennis, seconded by Ticknor that the Minutes of July 24, 2013, be approved. Ayes:
Eleven.
Citizens Oral Comments
None
Treasurer's Report
Marcia Courbat gave the Treasurer's Report. Ms. Courbat reported that the Commission has
sold 2,825 bricks at $50.00 each and 4 bricks at $250.00 each, with a balance of $8,719.53 in the
Brick Fund.
Moved by Ambrosy, seconded by Ticknor, that the invoice from Blackhawk Memorial in the
amount of $150.00 be approved. Ayes: Eleven.
Chairperson's Report
Chairperson White reported that the honor flight will be September 17, 2013. There was a
fundraiser on August 10, 2013 in Independence that raised $47,500.00.
Committee Reports
Building, Grounds & Operations —Richard Hastings reported that the shades have been shipped.
He is working with the building official to get the eaves trough painted and the kitchen window
is dry rotted. There will be a Navy reunion at 9:30 a.m. on September 14, 2013. The plants will
all be replaced. .
Educational/Historical-Randall Miller noted that the Veteran's Day celebration needs to be
planned.
Finance/Fundraising—Marcia Courbat requested to place an ad in the paper to sell additional
bricks. The forms will be at Cattle Congress and the Labor Day picnic. The dvd and television
will cost approximately $4,000.
Operations —Michael Dennis reported that the Gold Star Mothers photos have been found. Craig
White will get the frames fixed.
Unfinished Business
Moved by Ambrosy, seconded by Hastings to disallow the Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) with Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

McMahon that the meeting be adjourned at 5:47 p.m. Ayes: Eleven.
