AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 20 AND SECTION 23 OF ORDINANCE
NO. 2650, AN AMENDMENT TO THE PLUMBING CODE, AND ENACTING IN LIEU
THEREOF NEW SECTION 20 AND SECTION 23 THERETO.
BE IT ORDAINED BY the City Council of the City of Waterloo, Iowa:
That Section 20 and Section 23 of Ordinance No. 2650, an amendment to the
Plumbing Code, are hereby repealed in their entirety; and that new Section
20 and Section 23 are hereby enacted in lieu thereof as follows:
Section 20 - One Trench.
The building sewer when installed in the same trench with the water
service pipe shall be of cast iron soil pipe or copper tube of a weight
not less than that of copper water tube Type L, hard temper, and installed
with approved joints and shall be such as to remain watertight and root
proof. The provisions of Section 4.2 (7) and Section 10.6(2) of the Iowa
State Plumbing Code (1973) shall also be met.
Section 23 - Vent Pipe Grades and Connections
All vent and branch vent pipes shall be free from drops and sags and
be so graded and connected as to drip back to the soil or waste pipe by
gravity. Whenever possible where dry vent pipes connect to a horizontal
soil or waste pipe, the vent branch shall be taken off above the center line
of the pipe, and the vent pipe rise vertically or at an angle of 450 to the
vertical to a point six inches above the fixture it is venting before
offsetting horizontally or connecting to a branch, main waste, or soil vent.
No vertical vent terminating through roof shall have more than a 450
offset. All buildings that have basements shall be provided with a two
inch future vent to serve this area.
