AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 14-15, ESTABLISHED; COMPOSITION, UNDER
ARTICLE II, FIRE DEPARTMENT, OF CHAPTER 14, FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION,
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, AND ENACTING IN
LIEU THEREOF NEW SECTION 14-15, ESTABLISHED; COMPOSITION.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Waterloo, Iowa:
That Section 14-15, Established; composition, under Article II, Fire Department,
of Chapter 14, Fire Prevention and Protection, is hereby repealed in its entirety
and new Section 14-15, Established; composition, is hereby enacted in lieu thereof
as follows:
Section 14-15. Established; composition.
There is hereby created and established a fire department in
and for the city, consisting of:
(a) One (1) chief;
(b) One (1) assistant chief, whose employment shall be
either on the fire line or in an administrative
position, if so approved by the City Council;
(c) One (1) or more division chiefs as shall be determined
by the chief of the fire department based on the needs
of the department;
(d) Eight (8) or more captains;
(e) Twenty-seven (27) or more lieutenants; and
(f) Such number of officers and fire fighters as the city
may deem expedient and necessary, which number may be
increased at any time by council resolution.
Division chiefs shall assume the same duties as the assistant
chiefs at the time of the adoption of this section. The position
of superintendent of maintenance shall take the same position in
the salary scale as that of division chiefs.
