Justification of need for position: Captain Pillack serves as the Investigations Division Commander and as a Division Commander his replacement is essential. We would like to start the process so there is a Civil Service List in place to provide for a replacement of this position as quickly as possible to reduce in loss in service to the community. What are the likely consequences if the position is not filled? The Investigations Division is an essential unit on the Department. The Investigations Division Commander oversees all investigations and Tri-County Drug Task Force operations and is critical to the operations of the Police Department. If the position were not filled span of supervision could reach levels that could potentially result in liability issues for the City, and programs or units may need to be reassigned to assure our core mission is met. They are responsible for day-to-day operations of their respective units and a variety of other tasks, including grant management, staffing, discipline, recall, extra duty and special events. In order to reduce recall for out of rank pay it is imperative we replace this position as soon as possible. What are the likely consequences if the position is not filled? There would be increased overtime and out of rank pay to back fill for this vacant position. Duties of this staff position would have to reassigned to other staff members not working in that unit or division.
