SUBJECT: Request to begin Civil Service process and appoint Graphic
Designer/Digital Arts Manager for the Waterloo Center for the Arts

Recommended City Council Action: Approve request
Summary Statement One of the Waterloo Center for the Arts' key staff positions, Graphic
Designer/Digital Arts Manager is currently vacant due to Chawne Paige's promotion to Curator.
Expenditure Required: Annual salary requirement is $31,200. These funds are already included
in the Cultural & Arts budget appropriation for FY2014.
Source of Funds: General Fund 010-26-4250.1111, FT Salaries

Alternative; N/A
Background Information: This is a critical position, with responsibility for design and production
of a wide range of promotional and informational materials for the Center's exhibitions and
programs as well as management of the Center's digital design studio. It is strongly recommended
that the position be filled as soon as possible.

for the Waterloo Center for the Arts

Preparator/Technician is currently vacant due to a termination.
Expenditure Required: Annual salary requirement is $31,200. These funds are already included
in the Cultural & Arts budget appropriation for FY2014.

Background Information: This is a critical position, with responsibility for design, fabrication and
maintenance of passive and interactive exhibitions as well as responsibility for ongoing general
carpentry, construction and repair projects. Basic carpentry as well as familiarity with a wide range
of digital and analog technologies is required. It is strongly recommended that the position be
filled as soon as possible.
