SUBJECT: Request to Initiate Civil Service Process and Fill -
Park Maintenance II - Crew Leader (Leisure Services)
Submitted by: Paul Huting, Leisure Services Director
Recommended Committee Action: Approval to begin the Civil Service Process and make an
appointment for the position of Park Maintenance II - Crew Leader.
Summary Statement: I am requesting permission to move forward with the process to fill the
currently funded position of Park Maintenance II - Crew Leader, vacant due to the retirement of
Morris Kauffman effective 3/29/2013.
After a Civil Service List has been certified for this position I will take my appointment directly to
City Council for approval.
Expenditure Required: $23.14 per hour plus benefits
Source of Funds: Leisure Services (Park) Operating budget
Policy Issue: NA
Alternative: NA
Background Information: This position is funded in the current operating budget. Filling this
position will not result in a net increase in number of employees for Leisure Services.

Recommended Committee Action: Approval to begin the Civil Service Process and make an
appointment for the position of Golf Maintenance III.
Summary Statement: I am requesting permission to move forward with the process to fill the
currently funded position of Golf Maintenance III. This position will become vacant due to the
retirement of Mark Such effective 7/31/2013.
After a Civil Service List has been certified for this position I will take my appointment directly to
City Council for approval (after the position becomes vacant).
Expenditure Required: $26.86 per hour plus benefits

Recommended Committee Action: Approval to begin the Civil Service Process for the position
of Park Maintenance II - Construction.
Summary Statement: I am requesting permission to create a Civil Service List for the position of
Park Maintenance II - Construction.
This position would become vacant in the event of a promotion (of one of the existing individuals
in this position) to the Construction Foreman position which is currently vacant.
I would return to the Human Resources Committee for permission to fill the PM II -
Construction position in the event of such a promotion.
Expenditure Required: $23.14 per hour plus benefits
