SUBJECT: Permission to Promote a Sergeant
Submitted by: Dan Trelka, Director of Safety Services
Recommended City Council Action: Grant permission to promote a Sergeant from
the current civil service list.
Summary Statement: Sergeant Sue Holms retired from the department creating a
vacancy in the position of Sergeant. In order to provide for adequate first line supervision it
is critical that we have their replacements in place in a timely fashion.
Expenditure Required: Yes, funds allocated during FY 12 budget process
Source of Funds: General Fund

Background Information: Sergeant Sue Holms retired on March 31, 2011. A new civil
service list for Sergeant was certified on July 7, 2011. In order to keep overtime and recall
to a minimum on the Patrol Watches and assure adequate staffing we would like to have the
replacement appointed immediately. We have funds to facilitate this in our salary line item.

FT Building Inspections Permit Writer position and make an appointment.

SUBJECT: Request to Initiate Civil Service Process - Park Maintenance II - Forestry
Submitted by: Paul Huting, Leisure Services Director
Recommended City Council Action: Approval to begin the Civil Service Process for Leisure
Services Park Maintenance II - Forestry.
Summary Statement: I am requesting permission to move forward with the open process to fill
the currently funded position of Park Maintenance II - Forestry, vacant due to the transfer of Chris
Pett to Waste Management.
After a Civil Service List has been certified for this position I will take my appointment directly to
City Council for approval.
Expenditure Required: This position is currently funded.
Source of Funds: Leisure Services Operating budget
