SUBJECT: Permission to begin testing process for Police Sergeant.

Recommended City Council Action: Grant permission to begin Civil Service Testing Process for
Police Sergeant.
Summary Statement: We have a Sergeant position open due to a recent retirement. We do not have
a current Civil Service list for Sergeant as the list has expired. We would request permission to begin
this testing process to facilitate the replacement.

Source of Funds: Funds allocated in the FY 11 budget process

Background Information: It is imperative that we have a list of replacements to lessen the cost of
overtime associated with contractually obligated vacation scheduling for 2011 and to maintain
adequate shift supervision.

retirements of Alfred Montgomery, Steve Crook, and Dudley Blandin.

Request City Council approval to start the Civil Service process to develop a Civil Service list for a
Storm Water Specialist and make a hire from the list.
Summary Statement
The Engineering Department is requesting to hire a Storm Water Specialist to be funded from the
Storm Water Management Fee. The Storm Water Specialist will be working on all of the City's
NPDES permit requirements to keep the City in compliance.
