AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE
2007 CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE
CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, BY RE-
PEALING SUBSECTION (A), WEAP-
ONS, EXPLOSIVEB FIREWORKS,
ETC., AND SUBSECTION (B), HUNT-
ING AND TRAPPING; OF SECTION 5,
USE OF WEAPONS, FIREWORKS, OF
CHAPTER 8, LEISURE, CULTURAL
AND ARTS SERVICES, OF TITLE 7,
PUBLIC WAYS AND PROPERTY; AND
PARAGRAPH 2 OF SUBSECTION (B),
DISCHARGING AND POSSESSING
AIR RIFLES AND 'SIM ILAR DEVICES;
EXCEPTION, OF SECTION 6, DIS-
CHARGING WEAPONS, OF CHAPTER
2, GENERAL OFFENSES; OF TITLE 5,
POLICE REGULATIONS; AND ENACT-
ING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SUB-
SECTION (A), WEAPONS, EXPLO-
SIVES, FIREWORKS, ETC., AND SUB-
SECTION (B), HUNTING AND TRAP-
PING. OF SECTION 5, USE OF WEAP-
ONS; FIREWORKS, OF CHAPTER 8,
LEISURE, CULTURAL AND ARTS SER-
VICES, OF TITLE 7; PUBLIC WAYS
AND PROPERTY; AND PARAGRAPH 2
OF SUBSECTION (B), DISCHARGING
AND POSSESSING AIR RIFLES AND
SIMILAR DEVICES; EXCEPTION, OF
SECTION 6; DISCHARGING WEAP-
ONS, OF CHAPTER 2, GENERAL OF-
FENSES, OF TITLE 5, POLICE
REGULATIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUN-
CIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO,
IOWA:
That Subsection (A), Weapons, Explo-
sives, Fireworks, Etc., and Subsection
(B), Hunting and Trapping, of Section 5,
Use of Weapons, Fireworks, of Chapter
8, Leisure, Cultural, and Arts Services,
of Title 7, Public Ways and Property; and
Paragraph 2 of Subsection (B), Dis-
charging and Possessing Air Rifles and
Similar Devices; Exception, of Section 6,
Discharging Weapons, of Chapter 2,
Gegqeral Offenses, of Title 5, Police Reg-
ulatbns, of the 2007 Code of Ordinanc-
es of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, be and
the same is hereby repealed in its entire-
ty; that a new Subsection (A), Weapons,
Explosives; Fireworks, Etc., and Sub-
section (B), Hunting and Trapping, of
Section 5, Use of Weapons, Fireworks,
of Chapter 8, Leisure, Cultural, and Arts
Services, of Title 7, Public Ways and
Property; and Paragraph 2 of Subsec-
tion (B), Discharging and Possessing Air
Rifles and Similar Devices; Exception, of
Section 6, Discharging Weapons, of
Chapter 2, General Offenses, of Title 5,
Police Regulations, is hereby enacted in
lieu thereof as follows:
7-8-5: USE OF WEAPONS, -
FIREWORKS:
A.Weapons, Explosives, Fireworks, Etc.:
No person shall use or carry any fire-
arms, air or pellet guns, explosives,
weapons, firecrackers or fireworks of
any character in any public park except
as otherwise provided by this Code of
Ordinances.
B.Hunting and Trapping: Hunting and
trapping are prohibited, except as other-
wise provided by this Code of
Ordinances. This includes the use of
firearms, air or pellet guns, bow and ar-
row, trained hawk or falcon and harass-
ment of animal and bird life by whatever
means, except as may be authorized by
the City Council.
5-2-6: DISCHARGING WEAPONS:
B.Discharging and Possessing Air Rifles
and Similar Devices; Exception:
2.Subsection B1 of this section shall not
apply to licensed bow hunters engaged
in deer hunting from the second Monday
in October to January 10 of the following
year in the Leonard Katoski Greenbelt
park, on other city property as may be
authorized by city officials from time to
time, or on private property, as allowed
by the Iowa Department of Natural Re-
sources under its special deer manage-
ment zone procedures. During October
hunting shall only be allowed during
weekday mornings until twelve o'clock
(12:00)noon. However, no bow maybe
displayed within six hundred feet (600')
of any residence without the permission
of the, property owner, or on city property
except as stated above, or within
seventy-five (75') of any bike trail, nature
trail, other recreational facility or any oth-
er area posted as a no hunting area.
