AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE
2007 CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE
CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, BY RE-
PEALING SECTION 9-2A-6, ANNUAL
LIFE SAFETY PERMITS, LICENSE
AND CERTIFICATION FEES, OF ARTI-
CLE A, FIRE PREVENTION INSPEC-
TIONS, OF CHAPTER 2, FIRE PRE-
VENTION AND PROTECTION, OF TI-
TLE 9, BUILDING REGULATIONS;
AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A
NEW SECTION 9-2A-6, ANNUAL LIFE
SAFETY PERMITS, LICENSE AND
CERTIFICATION FEES, OF ARTICLE
A, FIRE PREVENTION INSPECTIONS,
OF CHAPTER 2, FIRE PREVENTION
AND PROTECTION, OF TITLE 9,
BUILDING REGULATIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUN-
CIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO,
IOWA:
That Section 9-2A-6, Annual Life Safety
Permits, License and Certification Fees,
Of Article A, Fire Prevention Inspections,
of Chapter 2, Fire Prevention and Pro-
tection; of Title 9, Building Regulations,
of the 2007 Code of Ordinances of the
City of Waterloo, Iowa, be and the same
is hereby repealed In its entirety; that a
new Section 9-2A-6, Annual Life Safety
Permits, License and Certification Fees,
of Article A, Fire Prevention Inspections,
of Chapter 2, Fire Prevention and Pro-
tection, of Title 9, Building Regulations,
is hereby enacted in lieu thereof as
follows:
9-2A-6: ANNUAL LIFE SAFETY PER-
MITS, LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
FEES: The following fees shall be es-
tablished for the permits; licenses, cer-
tificates, approvals, life safety Inspec-
tions and other functions performed un-
der this code and shall be payable by the
nonresidential businesses to the city.
Such fees shall accompany each appli-
cation for such permit, approval, certifi-
cate or other fee -related code provisions:
A.Nonresidential Businesses Annual j
Fee Schedule for Life Safety Inspection:
A sliding fee schedule has been devel-
oped in accordance with the square foot-
age of the building. An increase in fee
will be required for any building -occu-
pancy classification shown in the High
Hazard Group (HH) as defined in the
currently adopted fire code.
Square Footage Inspection Fee HH
1- 1,999 $ 40.00- $ 70.00
2,000 -19,999 70.00 90.00
20,000-49,999 90.00 135.00
50,000 - 99,999 22500 300.00
over 100,000 600.00 750.00
Reinspection Fees : For Nonresidential
Businesses:
First Reinspection $100.00
Second Reinspection $150.00
Third and Subsequent Reinspection
$200.00
The Fire Chief has the authority to waive
or negotiate inspection fees upon written
request from nonprofit organizations and
places of worship based on hardship.
At the time of the initial inspection, the
occupant and/or owner will receive a
,opy of the life safety inspection indicat-
ng which violations need to be correct -
;d, and the date of reinspection. Fees
Nill be assessed if no compliance is
bund at the time of the reinspection. if
he fire marshal is notified in writing, at
east 3 business days prior to reinspec-
ion that repairs are scheduled, a rein-
;pection date may be rescheduled to
311ow more time to complete repairs.
