Head Signatu : Noel Anderson, Community Planning & Development Director # of Attachments: COUNCIL SUBJECT: Excavation Request upon City property — Russ Holven MEMBERS Submitted by: Noel Anderson, Community Planning & Development Director DAVID Recommended Finance Committee Action: Approval JONES Ward 1 Summary Statement: As you may recall, Russ Holven has approached the City of Waterloo in the past to dig on City owned properties, as he is doing research on antique CAROLYN pharmacy bottles from 1846-1915 from the State of Iowa. Mr. Holven has noted that he COLE would like the opportunity to excavate portions of ground on 3 more separate City owned Ward 2 properties in the 100 blocks of East 8th and 9th Streets, and the 300 block of East 9th Street (please see attached maps). Mr. Holven has noted to City staff that he would dig 3'x 3' (9 HAROLD SF) holes that are about 3' to 4' in depth, and pile all the dirt on a nearby tarp. Once he is GETTY completed with that particular area, he noted he would restore the ground as he found it. Ward 3 There have been no known problems with the areas that Mr. Holven has excavated before. QUENTIN Staff recommends that the Building and Grounds Committee approve the request by Russ HART Ward 4 Holven to excavate ground on portions of City owned property to search for antique bottles, subject to the applicant holding the City of Waterloo harmless for any damages or RON injuries that may occur to himself or anyone in his party. The Building and Grounds WELPER Committee recently approved 4 similar requests in the past for Mr. Holven. If you have Wards any questions or concerns, please contact our office at 291-4366.
