SUBJECT: Request by Marion Iron Company to purchase two (2) 30 thousand eallon tanks for a total of
$500 from the former Chamberlain manufacturing site.

Recommended Building and Ground Action: To review request to ensure that it meets the sale of
city owned property policy and make recommendation to City Council.
Summary Statement: Staff has been working to find companies to purchase and remove existing tanks
from the site. Due to steel prices being low and the cost of mobilizing equipment to the site, it has proved
difficult to secure a company to purchase the tanks until now. As you are aware, Vieth Construction
Corp. has been selected as the lowest responsible bidder for the removal of the concrete floors at the site.
The contract with Vieth Construction Corp. indicates a cost of $5,200 to remove and dispose of the two
tanks. The selling of the tanks to Marion Iron Co. will reduce the demolition contract by $5,700.
Therefore, staff recommends that the sale of the two tanks to Marion Iron Company for $500 be
approved.
