The Human Resources Committee approved beginning the Civil Service process on 8/19/13 and the Civil Service Commission approved the job description and testing criteria on 9/19/13. This is a new position as part of the addition of the SportsPlex to Leisure Services. The position was advertised in the Courier, posted on the City website and cable channel and a notice sent to the agencies, organizations and individuals on the Affirmative Action list and in all City departments. We received 23 resumes and 7 candidates were invited to interview. Mark Gallagher, Bob Etringer and Bill Bachman from Leisure Services and Cheryl Huddleston from Human Resources conducted the interviews. This is a new position as part of the City taking over animal control from the Humane Society. The position was advertised in the Courier, posted on the City website and cable channel and a notice sent to the agencies, organizations and individuals on the Affirmative Action list and in all City departments. NEW BUSINESS The job description and testing criteria for Equipment Operator II — Street Department was presented for approval. We need to advertise as an open position since we did not have interest at the promotional level. We still need to get Human Resources Committee approval. The portfolio projects will be worth 50% of the total score. The top applicants, as ranked by combining 50% of their score on the oral examination with 50% of their score on the portfolio projects, will be the individuals placed on the certified list. Applicants who qualify as outlined and are full time regular employees of the City of Waterloo shall have one additional point per full year of employment up to a maximum of five points added to their final score. Honorably discharged men and women from the military or naval forces of the United States who qualify per provisions of Chapter 35 of the Code of Iowa and who are citizens and residents of the State of Iowa shall have five additional points added to their final score upon submission of their DD214 or ten points added if they were awarded a Purple Heart or have a service connected disability. No supervisory responsibilities.
