AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2234 KNOWN AS THE
PLUMBING CODE, REPEALING SECTION 9 OF ARTICLE III,
QUALITY & WEIGHT OF MATERIALS AND ENACTING IN LIEU
THEREOF A NEW SECTION 9 OF ARTICLE III; REPEALING
SECTION 2 OF ARTICLE VII, PLUMBING FIXTURES AND ENACTING
IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION 2 OF ARTICLE VII; REPEALING
SECTION 14 OF ARTICLE IX, DISTANCE OF VENT FROM THE TRAP
SEAL AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION 14 OF
ARTICLE IX; REPEALING SECTION 3 OF ARTICLE XII, INDIRECT,
REFRIGERATOR, ACID & SPECIAL WASTES AND ENACTING IN LIEU
THEREOF A NEW SECTION 3 OF ARTICLE XII.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA:
That Section 91 Article III, of Ordinance No. 2234, which reads as follows, be, and
the same is hereby repealed in its entirety:
Section 9. Sheet Lead - Sheet lead for roof flashings shall weigh not less than three
pounds per square foot. Sheet lead for safety pan in shower stalls shall weigh not
less than six pounds per square foot.
That new Section 9, Article III, of Ordinance No. 2234, be, and the same is hereby
enacted in lieu thereof:
Section 9. Sheet Lead - Sheet lead for roof flashings shall weigh not less than three
pounds per square foot. Sheet lead for Safety pan in shower stalls shall weigh not
less than four pounds per square foot and must have folded corners soldered on top
of fold and pan must be entirely coated with asphalt.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA:
That Section 2, Article VII, of Ordinance No. 2234, which reads as follows, be, and
the same is hereby repealed in its entirety:
Section 2. Water Closet Bowls - Water closet bowls and traps shall be made in one
piece and of such form as to hold sufficient quantity of water when filled to the
trap overflow, to prevent fouling of surfaces and shall be provided with integral
flushing rims and constructed so as to flush the entire interior of the bowl.
That new Section 2, Article VII, of Ordinance No. 2234, be, and the same is hereby
enacted in lieu thereof:
Section 2. Water Closet Bowls - Water closet bowls and traps shall be made in one
piece and of such form as to hold sufficient quantity of water when filled to the
trap overflow, to prevent fouling of surfaces and shall be provided with integral
flushing rims and constructed so as to flush the entire interior of the bowl.
(a) Public Use - Water closet bowl for public use shall be of the elongated
type equipped with an open front type seat.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA:
That Section 14, Article IX, of Ordinance No. 2234, which reads as follows, be, and
the same is hereby repealed in its entirety:
Section 14. Distance of Vent from the Trap Seal - No trap shall be placed more than
five feet, horizontal developed length, from its vents, except that a six foot
horizontal developed length for a bathtub trap will be permitted. A limit of six
feet in developed length will be permitted for water closets. The above developed
length shall be measured along the central line of the waste or soil pipe from the
vertical outlet of the fixture to the vent opening, the vent opening from the soil
or waste pipe except for the water closets and similar fixtures, shall not be below
the dip of the trap. Not more than one fixture shall be placed on an arm unless such
openings are vented. Except that two lavatories, two fountains, two sinks or a
combination of not more than two of the above, when side by side or back to back may
be connected to a 2" arm not to exceed 3 feet long without a vent.

That new Section 14, Article IX, of Ordinance No. 2234, be, and the same is hereby
enacted in lieu thereof:
Section 14. Distance of vent from the Trap Seal - No trap shall be placed more than
six feet, horizontal developed length, from its vents, except that a 1V branch six
feet long or a 2" branch seven feet long with a 2" trap reduced on the fixture side
of the trap will be permitted for a bathtub. A limit of six feet in developed
length will be permitted for water closets. The above developed length shall be
measured along the central line of the waste or soil pipe from the vertical outlet
of the fixture to the vent opening, the vent opening from the soil or waste pipe
except for the water closets and similar fixtures, shall not be below the dip of the
trap. Not more than one fixture shall be placed on an arm unless such openings are
vented. Except that two lavatories, two fountains, two sinks or a combination of not
more than two of the above, when side by side or back to back may be connected to a
2" arm not to exceed 3 feet long without a vent. Fall on a tub drain shall not be
more than one diameter of the drain.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA:
That Section 3, Article XII, of Ordinance No. 2234, which reads as follows, be, and
the same is hereby repealed in its entirety:
Section 3. Acid Waste - The waste pipes, vent pipes and traps for acid tanks, sinks
and other receptacles receiving the discharge of acids in chemical laboratories,
electrotyping, lithographing and other similar establishments shall not be connected
with soil or waste pipes in buildings, but shall be constructed of acid proof
earthenware or duriron pipe with bell and spigot joints, bells to be at least three
inches deep and with annular space not less than one-half inch, or material of equal
quality, lines to be properly trapped at fixtures and carried outside of foundation
walls to connection with main house sewer.
That new Section 3, Article XII, of Ordinance No. 2234, be, and the same is hereby
enacted in lieu thereof:
Section 3. Acid Waste - The waste pipes, vent pipes and traps for acid tanks, sinks
and other receptacles receiving the discharge of acids in chemical laboratories,
electrotyping, lithographing and other similar establishments shall not be connected
with soil or waste pipes in buildings, but shall be constructed of acid proof
earthenware or duriron pipe with bell and spigot joints, bells to be at least three
inches deep and with annular space not less than one-half inch, or materials of
equal quality or pyrex pipe and approved fittings installed according to
manufacturer's specifications. All lines to be properly trapped at fixtures and
carried outside of foundation walls to connection with main house sewer.
