s RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
J - WATERLOO, IOWA, APPROVING APPLICATION TO THE
H < IOWA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR LOW-
S K- HEAD DAM SAFETY PROGRAM FUNDING.

o ` WHEREAS, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources
ac-ninisters the Low-Head Dam Safety Program; and

c E- 7 WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo, in partnership with the Black

County Conservation Board and other metropolitan
00 jurrsdictions, is investing in recreational improvements to the
C.) Zi24'r River in the form of the Cedar River Water Trail project;

s WHEREAS, the development of the Cedar River Water Trail is
.c4€ical to the revitalization and renewed interaction with the
Ced,r River in Black Hawk County; and
G ^ WHEREAS, as part of the Cedar River Water Trail, it is
mecessary to develop signage and portages relating to the Park
'A Dam and the 6th Street Dam in downtown Waterloo; and

_^ WHEREAS, the city is applying for Low-Head Dam Safety
grogram funds to leverage funds received from the Federal
Recreational Trails program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo will provide the remaining
local match necessary to complete this critical link in the Cedar
River Water Trail .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA, that the City Council authorizes the application
to be submitted to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for
Low-Head Dam Safety Program funding.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of October, 2008 .
