WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo is interested in the economic
",redevelopment of brownfields in the community, and
c WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has provided
initiAtives to prevent, assess, educate and develop plans for the
cleanup and sustainable reuse of brownfields, and
_�XHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency is offering
Coalition Assessment Grants to assist communities in assessing
brownfields and developing a sustainable reuse plan, and
WHEREAS, the Waterloo Schools and Black Hawk County agree to be
part :of the Coalition, and
KHEREAS, the City of Waterloo is an entity eligible to receive
funds under CERCLA Section 104 (d) , has the authority to enter into an
agreement with the U.S . Environmental Protection Agency, and has the
authority to carry out the work included in the application, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Environmental Protection Agency Applications
for Brownfields Coalition Community-Wide Assessment grant to address
hazardous substances and petroleum contaminates in the amount of
$1, 000, 000 . 00 as referred to in the preamble hereof be and the same is
hereby approved as to form and content .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that city staff is hereby authorized and
directed to submit such application to the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency for and on behalf of the City of Waterloo.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of November, 2008 .
