Currently in our city —we have:
197 Intersections or locations with some type of traffic control.
96 intersections have fiber next to the cabinets although not all have video detection or monitoring
cameras.
28 intersections have PTZ cameras —some have 1 or 2 cameras.
18 Wireless locations that have the capability of sending video & recording to our traffic control
center.
To ready approximately 140 intersections for connecting fiber to the cabinet along with splicing and
terminating at the location the cost would be approximately $3,107 per intersection - totaling
approximately $434,000. Some of these intersections would need PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) or video
cameras installed which is an additional expense.
The cost depending on the quality of HD video would vary— starting at approximately $2,450.00 per
Axis PTZ camera.
Video Detection cameras —for 4 estimated at between $4,000 to $5,000 each.
These costs are all dependent on the HD quality that is needed or wanted.
There are 88 RR crossings in the city — some have gates and lights — others crossbars. Waiting for a
list of crossings from the Office of Transportation in Des Moines.
I do not have a cost for cameras and installation at the various locations at this time.
Additional signal technician needed to monitor and manage the system.
Estimated at $86,000 (wages and benefits)
IT may need additional personnel also.
A server will be needed to upload and record. Depending on the size needed to be able to add
hard drives and storage as the system grows - cost could range from $25,000 to 125,000. Chris
would be able to comment on that.
