The State Code of Iowa provides that each elected or appointed public
official only qualifies by taking an Oath of Office. Sometimes this
is done by having the Oath taken orally in a swearing-in type of
ceremony; sometimes it is accomplished simply by signing an Oath of
Office in front of a Notary.
This portion of the State Law has just come to the attention of our
City Attorney's Office, and inasmuch as most of our Boards in con-
nection with the Building Department do not meet on a regular basis,
I am enclosing a copy of an Oath of Office form for you to sign in
the presence of a Notary. Being a Notary myself, and with several
others in City Hall, we shall be most pleased to handle the notari-
zation for you, but we would request that you take care of this
matter at your very earliest convenience prior to its becoming
forgotten. It is necessary to receive both copies as soon as possible.

Dear Sir or Madam:
As you are no doubt aware the Code of Iowa provides that
each elected or appointed public official qualifies by
taking his Oath of Office. Sometimes this is done by having
the official orally take the Oath of Office in a swearing-in
type of ceremony; sometimes it is accomplished simply by
signing an Oath of Office in front of a Notary.
i am herewith enclosing enough Oath of Office forms for
your board members or commissioners, which each member of
your Board or Commission should sign if he has not already
done so or if he has not already been sworn in.
You may want to keep a copy of the Oath of Office in your
own files; however, please return the original Oath of Office
to the Waterloo City Clerk's Office.
Very truly yours,
